Burg Hochosterwitz

Carinthia, Austria.
Situated on a 160 meter high rock, Burg Hochosterwitz is visible from 30 kilometres away. Historical papers first mention around 860 AD when it was still called Astorwiza. Almost 400 years later in 1209 AD the castle was given to the Osterwitz family and they became "cup-bearers". The year 1571 saw the structure being enlarged by a certain baron von Khevenhüller. Burg Hochosterwitz is considered one of Austria's most interesting castles. Since the 16th century nothing major was changed, and the castle is pretty much as it was in that time. The public can view this Burg from Easter to the end of October. This object can be reached quite easily by train and car.
